Basketball County: In the Water — Showtime Documentary
Basketball County: In the Water Showtime Documentary
CLIENT: Thirty Five Ventures / Showtime
Industry: Sports + Entertainment
Creative Direction: Simon Kim (Zuri partner)
Insight
Prince George’s County has produced more elite basketball talent per capita than anywhere else in the world. But the story behind that phenomenon had never been told with the cultural depth it deserved. The game was known. The community was not.
Challenge
The documentary needed cinematic, community-embedded visual storytelling that could capture PG County authentically: not as a backdrop, but as the subject. That required a team with real roots in the culture and a documentary eye that could find the story in everyday moments.
Approach
Under the creative direction of longtime Zuri partner Simon Kim, Zuri contributed cinematic B-roll capture and event documentation across multiple locations throughout PG County. Simon’s deep ties to the community shaped how the county’s story was captured on screen. The Zuri team embedded in the community, documenting authentic moments on and off the court that gave the film its cultural texture and visual grounding.
